Tuesday August 31 2010
PARKVILLE UNITED 3 ST. MARY'S FC 3: ST. MARY'S from the Barrowhouse area made their debut in Carlow League with a hard fought, but well earned draw against Parkville's second string coming from behind to earn a 3-3 result.
Man of match for St Mary's Mark Dea scored a hat trick, his first goal was a well drilled free kick into the bottom corner after only six minutes to set the tone of the game. United fought back and on 30 minutes equalised, two of their youth players combined with Dan Slye crossing for Willie Doran to finish to the back of the Saints net. Five minutes later Parkville took the lead, Matthew Decaux was fouled in the area and from the resulting penalty Doran put his team in a 2-1 lead. Just before the break, United made it 3-1, Willie Byrne crossed for Doran to secure his hat trick.
The new boys, St. Mary's had a very positive second half right from the kick off. Paul Kingston forced the United 'keeper, Darren McGrath into a great save early in the half. The Sains pressure began to be effective when Mark Dea scored with two smashing volleys, on 30 and 85 minutes earning his team a merited draw, a team consisting of players new to the game.
Paul Kingston up front caused many problems for the Parkville defence and others to shine for St. Mary's were Tom McDonald and James Brennan who never stopped running and lead by example. Best performers for Parkville United were David McCarney, Craig Mulhall and Keith Slye.
Village FC 1 Carlow Rovers 1
ANOTHER team to make their debut were Village FC from Old Leighlin, holding Carlow Rovers to a draw.
Rovers found themselves under pressure in the first half with their 'keeper, Dermott Ingram forced to make two great saves. With the Rovers old guard turning up to play they managed to soak up that pressure for most of the half before taking the lead. On 40 minutes Rovers Jamie Hanly crossed for Jonathan Kenny to score the opening goal.
Leading by that first half goal, Rovers again came under sever pressure from Village right from the start of the second half. The breakthrough came for Village on 56 minutes when Paddy Foley equalised with a fine goal.
However Rovers they managed to break out late in the half and were denied a certain winner when the Village 'keeper saved a certain goal when Paul Stynes volleyed a Hanly cross. Despite the continued Village pressure in search of a winner, Rovers held firm and Village had to settle for a share of the points in their first outing.
Martin Mara, Paddy Foley, Derek Mara, Johnny O' Brien and Martin Deevy played well for the Village while Stephen Payne, Dermott Ingram and Paul Slye shone for Carlow Rovers.
