WHAT IS it about some sports administrators that they curl up and shudder at the thoughts of change? Why do they seemingly hide at the echoes of player/spectator clamour? Are they intimidated at what they perceive as hostile repercussions or simply not wish to be dictated to by the public at large?

INSIDE RIGHT hates having to cover old ground with the Thierry Henry handball debate but an email that found it's way to the desk of yours truly has reignited the issue in the mind. A reader of this column took umbrage at suggestions by this writer that we should move on from what happened in Paris and instead look within for reasons why we didn't qualify for the World Cup.

OUR EYES are glued to the telly – squared by this stage; sleep lost and the fare generally dreadfully dull, lacking inventiveness and more often than not offensively bankrupt. The road-show rumbles on and the toothache continuesÉfat-cats roaming the veldtÉsome laddies on five mill a year and can't either prevent journeymen finding the net or score at the other end.

Fitting end to a dull World Cup

DO I DETECT a sense of relief now that the World Cup is over, or is that just my own personal delight that the drudge has finally ended? For some Wimbledon has passed in all its pomp and splendour, and of course marvellous athletic delights, and a 'new' hero being crowned, yet with no controversy. Then it was back to the negative sport; that which permits the abysmal and the masterly to be separated by just one goal in so many cases, and then of course how may matches (six I believe) failure to find the net, and sixteen more with only one score to delight adoring crowds. Dear God, they're easily entertained.
