PARKVILLE UNLIKE their counterparts Parkville are having a dream start to their season with full points from their two games. The Tullow side had the better of the first half with their keeper, Kevin Griffin with little to do. The home side created three good chance of note before they were to open the scoring, two of them long distance shots. Ebby Quigley had two, one from 30 yards was just go wide and the second from almost the sideline was tipped over by the Stretford keeper Sean Maher.

Their third came from the boot of Jamie Farrell who forced an excellent save from Maher. Then the breakthrough came on 41 minutes, Quigley crossed in a great shot for Farrell to challenge the keeper with a header, which went in off the keeper's shoulder to see Parkville leading 1-0 at the break. Stretford's best chance came from Patrick Dooley on 20 minutes when he forced the Parkville keeper, Kevin griffin into action for the first time.

In the early second half exchanges Parkville showed that their improvement this season was not to be a temporary success when they doubled their advantage from superbly taken Thomas Byrne free kick from 20 yards on 48 minutes that went over the Stretford wall to nest in the back of the Stretford net. Quigley then went on to miss an excellent chance, the ball was dropped into the box and from twelve yards, the unmarked Quigley drove the ball high and wide.

Stretford were living on their nerves when Parkville got close to their goalmouth and had not John Kenny come to their rescue following a goalmouth scramble, they could have been trailing further. With the introduction of James Ryan off the bench, Stretford seemed to come to life. Fronn a great Patrick Dooley cross into the Parkville box, Darren Costelloe with a glancing header forced another great Griffin save for Parkville..

However, it was only a matter of time before Jamie Farrell's superb pace was going to pay dividends. From the half way line he took on two Stretford defenders for speed, flying past their last man, Paul Hughes. Farrell's excellent finish made it 3-0 and put the game beyond Stretford despite Mick Doyle having some late scoring chances.

Ridge Rangers 0 Nurney Villa 2

TWO FIRST half goals by Mick Nevin gave Nurney the points in Crossneen on Sunday.

The visitors got off to a tonic start, aided by a strong wind, they went ahead on eight minutes. Gary Dillon challenged the Rangers keeper, Adrian Brennan for a loose ball, it broke to Nevin who first timed it to a vacant Ridge net. Rangers recovered from this early set back and Jimmy Dunne forced a fine save from the Nurney keeper, Pakie Fleming, who finger tipped Dunne's effort round the upright for a corner on 18 minutes. Villa continued to ask question of the Rangers rearguard, Willie Kearney headed just over when he got on the end of a long throw from Dillon on 28 minutes. Two minutes later however Nurney doubled their advantage when a pacey Kearney broke down the wing, crossed for the ever dangerous Nevin to volley home a brilliant goal.

With two goals down, Rangers were to have the elements on their backs in the second half. Barry Amond almost reduced the arrears on 47 minutes, shooting into the side netting. Eoin Paul Keating also shot just wide as they fought hard to get into the contest. Nurney were not short of chances either and Emmet Moore brought a fine save from Brennan with a header following a Richard Kearney corner kick. With the Villa defence holding the Rangers attack in a vice like grip there was no way back for the home side.

Bagenalstown FC 1 Hanover Harps 5

HANOVER had a big win in McGrath Park over a struggling Town side.

Harps went into a four minute lead when Paul Dowling put over a cross and Graham Delaney, their youth player, put the ball home from close range for their opening goal and his sixth at this very early stage of the season. Two minutes later and hungry for more goals, Delaney rounded the Town keeper, but his shot from a narrow angle came back off the post.

The visitors continued to hold control of the proceedings with Mark Kelly breaking through the Town defence but was denied by their keeper. Midway through the half, Hanover doubled their lead, Alan O'Brien placed Delaney to score his second of the game.

Leading by two goals at half time, Hanover soon increased their lead further when Benny Kavanagh put Derek Hayden through on goal to put the chance away. Kavanagh was again the provider for goal four, this time he freed Mark Kelly who scored with aplomb.

Now in total control, Hanover went five up, Delaney completed his hat trick following good work from Kelly, now having reached seven overall, over half the amount of the top goal scorers in either the Premier or Division 1 for last season from only three games out of eighteen. There was enough time left for a late consolation goal from Bagenalstown who will be very disappointed by their performance.

Phil Neenan, Vinnie Kavanagh, Paul Farrell and Mark Kelly excelled.
