Parkville United hit for six by Baltinglass

Tuesday February 23 2010

THE VISITING Parkville second string enjoyed prosperity during the early exchanges with Darragh Conway having a great shot well saved and a header a whisker away from giving his side the lead.

When the Baltinglass response materialised it was deadly efficient with a tricky run by Chris Dowling earning a penalty which Kevin Redmond converted on 22 minutes.

Baltinglass struck a purple patch as the exchanges approached half time with Chris Dowling and Anto Gately taking chances to put the home team into a commanding position.

Willy Doran always looked capable of tearing a strip or two off the Baltinglass defence and went close to scoring on a couple of occasions before Chris Redmond swooped to score an opportunists goal on 63 minutes.

Baltinglass were happy to preserve the status quo during the following exchanges but when late chances presented themselves, their Mick Dowling and Luke Nolan were unerring in their finishing rewarding the earlier efforts of Paddy Sinnott, Paul Redmond and James Gahan. Best for Parkville were Willy Doran, Michael and Robert Byrne.

Hacketstown United 2 Borris FC 1

WITH BORRIS defending effectively during the first quarter and mounting counter attacks which made for anxious Hacketstown defending there was always a question who would score the all-important first goal.

It came on 30 minutes when Jamie Walsh fired a free into the top corner of the visitors net. Borris were compelled to attack and Town's Owen Coleman was on hand to polish off a fine cross from Damien Byrne shortly before half time.

Some uncharacteristic Borris play gave Town a decided advantage during the third quarter but Tom Murphy failed to convert a penalty on 60 minutes.

When Owen Coleman's header clattered the Borris bar on 77 minutes Borris responded with a late flurry, earning a well taking score to reduce the deficit and Town just about clung onto the narrowest of leads thanks to the efforts of Jamie Walsh, David Mulvanney and James Doyle.
