KILLESHIN'S CHANCES of some honours are hanging by a thread following their defeat by New Oak at home. The boys started the better and fifteen minutes into the first half Gary Walsh forced a super save from the Killeshin 'keeper, Michael Byrne.
Then from a corner, Walsh hit the Killeshin crossbar with a great volley from the edge of the box. Killeshin's chances were kept to a minimum, even though in the second period of the first half they had good possession. Colm Fitzgerald went close when he went one on one with the Boys 'keeper, however he was forced to shoot wide.
The start of the second half mirrored the first with New Oak going on the attack. On 57 minutes they were rewarded for their efforts when Ivor Bowe slotted home to break the deadlock. Again, Killeshin got back into the game having a lot of possession with Fitzgerald going close again, however time ran out and New Oak keep the pressure on Wolfhill.
Ivor Bowe, Owen Garvey, Kevin Haughney and P. J. Duffy stood out for New Oak Boys. Best players for Killeshin were Nicky Maher, Pat Brennan and Richard Serry.
Nurney Villa 0 St. Fiacc's 0
Even if it was a drab bottom of the league decider, both teams gave it their best shot.
Both goalkeepers were in good form, preventing any scoring. In the first half, Paul Dermody had a shot well saved mid way through the half by the Saints 'keeper.
Nurney had a lot of possession in the second half but faile to make it count. Pat Murphy hit the crossbar while Denis Bermingham from a good chance sent his attempt wide. With Fiacc's having only two games remaining, they are still looking for that elusive victory.
Best for Nurney Villa were Vincent Murphy, Davis Dermody and Paul Dermody.
Thomastown United 0 Wolfhill Athletic 3
Wolfhill are still on track for honours following their convincing win in Thomastown on Sunday.
Wolfhill created most of the chances, particularly in the first half. During the opening five minutes Christy Owens and Dave Carthy created chances for Wolfhill. The opened the scoring on 18 minutes, from 35 yards Damian McMahon scored. The visitors kept the pressure on Thomastown especially down the right. Tow minutes later they doubled their advantage, Dave Carthy put Kevin Kealy through who rounded the OEkeeper to slot home.
In the second half Wolfhill pushed but with little success and United got their best chance when Vinnie Maher had a powerful shot saved by the Athletic OEkeeper. With five minutes left on the clock, Wolfhill made it 3-0. From a Damian McMahon free kick, Charlie Dunne with a powerful header, smashed the ball in the back of the Thomastown net.
Dave Carthy, Damian McMahon and 'man of the match' Martin Germain put in great performances. Best players for Thomastown United were Vinnie Maher, Derek Cuddihy and Ricky Proctor.
