Fiacc's take huge step towards title honours
ST. FIACC'S 5 DERRY ROVERS 2
FIACC'S TOOK a huge step towards League honours with victory over Rovers in Graiguecullen. The Saints lead 3-1 at half time, their goals coming from Conor Byrne, Dale Byrne and Lee Timmins to single reply from Derry Rovers, Paul Nolan the scorer.
Fiacc's were always in the driving seat in the second half and a brace of goals from Conor Byrne to complete his hat trick, made sure of victory. Rovers got a late consolation goal through Adam Kenny. The Saints now go top of the table with three clear points; however, Rovers have a game in hand against New Oak before both teams have a return fixture, which will probably decide honours.
Starring for St. Fiacc's were Padraigh Murphy, Liam Kearney and James Bolton.
Bagenalstown FC 2 Parkville United 0
A GOAL either side of the break gave Bagenalstown victory in a very dull tie in McGrath Park.
Ciaran Lee set up Alan McDonald to shoot home on 19 minutes to put Town ahead. A very young Parkville side tried hard to get back on level terms before the break, however Mark Behan had a shot well blocked down by a United defender and Matthew Decaux hit wide when well placed.
Leading 1-0 at the break Bagenalstown increased their lead four minutes into the second half, Stephen Fowler finished excellently well to the top corner of the United net. Parkville kept battling gamely, Stephen Deery hit the woodwork with a great shot. However Bagenalstown never looked like letting the points slip from their grasp as they went on to win comfortably. Probably too late to make an impact in the league, Town will be strong contenders for the Youth's Cup.
Adam Dermody, Michael Murphy and Daniel Haughney played well for Bagenalstown. Parkville United's top players on the day were Willie Doran, Willie Rooney and Matthew Decaux.
New Oak Boys 1 FC Carlow 0
AN EARLY goal gave New Oak victory over a very young FC Carlow side at Burrin Road on Saturday.
The Boys were the side that settled better from the kick off, taking an eight minute lead through Thabo Mothabeng and then had a penalty kick save by the FC OEkeeper, Stephen Duncan two minutes later. The home side continued to look the better for the remainder of the half with causing a lot of bother to the FC defence.
The second half saw FC Carlow take control of possession, however some excellent defending by the Boys along with some wayward shooting by FC saw the home side cling on for an excellent result for New Oak running into form at the right time for the forthcoming cup competition.
Excellent for New Oak Boys were Daryl Hayden, Sean Horan and Graham Dempsey. For FC Carlow, Stephen Duncan, Robbie Byrne, Shane Clarke and Fernando de Silva tried hard.
