NEW OAK BOYS 4 PARKVILLE UNITED 1: A MUCH improved New Oak had a big win at home on the Burrin Road on Saturday afternoon. Following an evenly matched opening quarter, it did not look good for the Boys When Willie Doran played Matthew Decaux through to open the scoring for Parkville on 26 minutes.
The Boys however were soon to reply with a Niall Coakley goal to leave the score line 1-1 at the break.
New Oak dominated the second half exchanges and Stephen Preston put them ahead on 55 minutes. United tried their best to stem the Boys dominance but following a couple of missed chances from Willie Doran and Adam Lawler, New Oak took complete control and Patrick O'Brien put them 3-1 up on 71 minutes. Parkville were now unable to lift their game and the tie was over as a contest. The icing was put on the New Oak cake on 88 minutes, Preston netted his second goal of the game to complete the scoring.
Outstanding for New Oak Boys were Daryl Hayden, Patrick O'Brien and Stephen Preston. For Parkville United, Mick Murray, Willie Rooney and Willie Doran were their best players.
Bagenalstown 2 Palatine Celtic 3
A HARD fought tie went Palatine's way in McGrath Park on Saturday.
Celtic started well putting pressure on the town defence early in the half. They got their reward on 14 minutes when Lorcan Carroll found Jason Kane in space and he put David Cleary in on goal to score.
Not satisfied with a single goal lead, Palatine kept the foot on the pedal and ten minutes later increased their lead, Kane robbed a Town defender of possession and raced clear to score.
With Celtic two goals up at the break, Bagenalstown reorganised their forces and had a
much better second half. They pulled a goal back on 57 minutes, Alan McDonald was brought down in the area and Andrew Townsend converted the spot kick. It was all square on 64 minutes, McDonald availed of a mix up in defence to tie the scores at 2-2. With all to play for now, both sides strove hard for the lead goal. Following a few close calls at both ends, it was Celtic who got the vital fifth goal, good work from Chris Parle and Kieran Moran saw David Kenny send a pile driver to the Town net for what turned to be the winner.
For Palatine Celtic, Jack Lowry, Lorcan Carroll, Chris Parle and Jason Kane excelled. Tops for Bagenalstown were Pat Abbey, Alan Beaton and Michael Murphy.
Killeshin FC 1 St. Fiacc's 3
FIACC'S KEPT their chances of League honours very much alive, getting the better of Killeshin in this parish derby fixture.
The Graiguecullen side had to come from behind after Killeshin took a first half lead, however the Saints hit back to lead 2-1 at half time. The goals came from Lee Timmons and Conor Byrne.
Although Killeshin strove hard in the second half to regain their momentum, Fiacc's always held the upper hand and a James Bolton gave them more breathing space, with their defence now holding the sporadic Killeshin attacks at bay. Fiacc's went on to complete an important win to put them top of the table and virtually destroy Killeshin's chances of any medals.
Starring for St. Fiacc's were Liam Kearney, Paddy Brannigan and James Bolton
