Anne's too good for Burrin Celtic

IN A bottom half of the table clash, St. Anne's gained the points to move to mid table following their victory in Pier Park. Neither side managed to create many chances of note in the first have with them going into the break scoreless.

The game came to light almost immediately at the start of the second half with Darren Burke breaking the deadlock, scoring for the Saints on 46 minutes. They went on to double their advantage with a Brian Quinlan goal on 55 minutes. Then Celtic had a great chance of reducing the arrears on 60 minutes, Ronan Donnelly went one on one with the Saints goalkeeper but faile to make his mark. Celtic did their utmost to get back into the game and late on Thomas Murphy had a header cleared off the line following a great ball from John Brennan.

Adrian Casey, Trevor Reardon and William Murphy stood out for St. Ann's. Best players for Burrin Celtic were John and Stephen Brennan and Eddie Nolan.

Tullow Town 3 Carlow Rovers 0

TULLOW turned their backs on their recent defeats to claim the points on Sunday against Carlow Rovers and move to the top four places.

It was a closely contested league tie and Rovers put the pressure on early with Wesley Shirley forcing the Town goalkeeper into a good save. However, 20 minutes into the half Mark Doran opened the scoring for Tullow with a good goal. Both sides created chances during the remainder of the half but the two goalkeepers were well on top.

Tullow further widened the gap on 40 minutes, Mark Doyle scoring with a super free kick to leave the half time score line 2-0.

In the second half Rovers went all out to get back into the game with chances from Damien Byrne, Noel Purcell. Jordan Lennon hit the woodwork for Rovers on 65 minutes and Mark earl was also unlucky for the visitors hitting the cross bar with his attempt. Then Tullow put the game out of the Rovers reach with Mark Doran scoring his second of the game to give his side a 3-0 lead.

With only five minutes remaining, Lennon was rewarded for his efforts for Rovers when he rattled the back of the Tullow net with a shot from just inside the box.

Playing well for Tullow Town were Graham Doyle, Martin and Mark Doran and Mark Doyle. On the day Dermot Ingram goalkeeper, Damien Byrne, Shane Mahon and Wesley Shirley impressed for Carlow Rovers.
