Rory shows his quality with Leinster Senior win

AT THE end of 2011, we witnessed a Carlow squash player, Arthur Gaskin, win his first National Senior title and this weekend at Sutton LTC Rory Byrne became yet another Carlow man to break in the top echelons of Senior squash when he won the Leinster Senior Closed Championship in great style with a 3/0, 11-4 11-4 11-3 win over the vastly experienced Eoin Ryan from the host club.

CARLOW'S Mount Leinster Rangers are just days away from stepping out onto the hallowed turf of Croke Park to do battle in the All-Ireland Intermediate club hurling final. The clash between the Rangers and Middletown Na Fianna from Armagh will no doubt be a titanic struggle and every living soul in Carlow will be rooting for the boys from the foothills of Mount Leinster.

IT'S HARD to know what to think about Carlow's chances this weekend. Having beaten Offaly and showing well against Dublin only to fall apart against Laois things seemed to be heading, generally, in the right direction. At the weekend though they had a nightmare of a day against St Brigids, only scoring 1-2 in the hour and ultimately losing out.

Dinner Dance to be held

AFTER A break of a couple of years, the Committee has decided to hold a dinner dance to celebrate a very successful year for the club in 2011. All four of the club's adult teams reached finals with the Minors taking pride of place by winning the "B" Championship. The Intermediates and Under 21s also reached their Championship finals and were unlucky to lose - hopes are high that both teams can go one step further in 2012. The Intermediates and Juniors did bring home silverware by winning the finals of Divisions 2 and 4.

RATHVILLY has suffered a huge loss in the last few weeks. The clubs first Juvenile chairman Tom Bolger passed away after battling motor neurone disease. He was aged 63.

CARLOW GAA clubs decided to leave well enough alone and not alter or change any championships or leagues for the coming season at the co. committee competitions regulation meeting on Tuesday last writes Tommy Murphy. Three weeks previous all club chairpersons, secretaries and co. committee delegates met and discussed the present formats, they then returned to their clubs debated and discussed the competitions and 14 clubs submitted motions for last week's county committee meeting.
