Great skill on display at South East Leinster badminton championships
THE PACKED crowd that gathered in Carlow Lawn Tennis Club recently to witness the 17 South East Leinster Badminton Championship witnessed an outstanding display of skill and determination as representatives from 14 clubs battled for honours in Ladies, Mens and mixed doubles from grade 6 to grade 1.

Grade 6 Ladies: Mary Doogue and Betty Dunne (Athy RFC) beat Deborah and Lorna Collier (Carlow YM) 21-19, 11-21, 21-14
Mens Doubles: Robert Colier and Daryl James ( YM) beat Padraig Downey and Raymond James (St. Laurences and YM) 21-13, 14-21, 21-13.
Mixed Doubles: Brendan Menton and yvonne Hoban beat Daryl James and Deborah Collier 21-14, 13-21, 21-11
Grade 5 Ladies: Helen and Rachel Rouse (Donoughmore) beat Yvette Connor and Ruth Fennell YM 21-8, 21-11
Mens Doubles: Jimmy Keating and James Kilbride (Athy RFC) beat Martin O'Hanlon jnr and Andy O'Keeffe (Johnswell) 21-15, 21-13.
Mixed Doubles: Andy Butler and Laura Butler ( Johnswell) beat fellow Johnswell players Mairead Dowling and Fergal Brenan 21-8, 21-12
Grade 4 Ladies: Mairead Dowling and Laura Butler (Johnswell) beat Barbara Coffey and Dolores Sheerin (Rahan)
Mens: David James and Andy Owens ( Bough) beat Victor Rigley and William Stephenson (Carlow YM)21-13, 17-21, 21-18.
Mixed: Keith Kehoe and Laura Butler (Johnswell ) beat Seán Polard-Jackson and Ashleigh Fennell (YM) 21-15, 21-19.
Grade 3: Mens - Matthew Arun and Jim Whyte ( Mullingar ) beat Ger Fox and Stuart Platt (Gurten) 21-18, 19-21, 21-16.

Grade 1 Ladies: Eimear Banville and Claire Falvey (LTC) beat Celine Connors and Laura Hanlon (Ballycommon-Johnswell) 21-18, 21-15.
Mens: Andrew Harte and Peter Roche (LTC) beat Aubrey Cox and Willie Stevenson (YM) 21-14, 2116.
Mixed Doubles: Andrew Harte and Eimear Banvile (LTC) beat fellow LTC players Colm Byrne and Clair Falvey 21-15, 17-21, 2116 to bring an excellent nights badminton to a fitting conclusion.
