Carlow man wins inter-club pike match

THE CARLOW Coarse Angling Club hosted their first inter club Pike match of the year with the Polish Catch and Release club Fishmaniak on Sunday.

The weather was fairly mild following the snow fall the night before and sub - zero temperatures several Pike were indeed caught. The Pike match was attended by anglers from Dublin, Carlow, Wicklow, Kilkenny. A total of four Pike were caught three of them with only fifteen minutes of the match to go.

C.C.A.C. executive committee member James O'Mara was first of the blocks only minutes into the competition with a Pike weighing 3lb. With the end of the five hour match in sight with only 25 minutes to go Lukasz Sankiewicz member of the Polish Catch and Release club Fishmaniak managed to land a Pike weighing 1Lb 13 1/2 oz. With only 20 minutes to go Piotr Kaczmarek also from the Catch and Release club Fishmaniak landed a Pike weighing 1 Lb 4oz.

With only nine minutes to go James O'Mara sealed his victory with another Pike weighing 2Lb 10oz which was caught by floating a Smelt just two foot from an island.
