Athletes perform well in Nenagh
NENAGH STADIUM was the venue for the Leinter AAI Indoor Championships and though our club numbers were smaller than past years those that travelled performed admirably.
Pride of place must go to Nessa Millet who won Gold in the 200m after a brilliant run she won Bronze in the Long Jump and Bronze in the 60m Hurdles. Conor Daly won Gold in the High Jump Bronze in the 60m Hurdles and finished 4th in the Long Jump. Denis Brophy finished 5th in the Long Jump and 8th in the 60m final.
Saragh Buggy finished 4th in both the Long Jump and the 60m Hurdles. Eoghan Buggy won Silver in the Long Jump and Bronze in both the 60m and 200m. Kelsey Warburton made the final of her hurdles. James Moore was 9th in the 800. Emma Daly took Bronze in the Shot.
Craig Coffey won Gold in the U/16 High Jump. Aaron Whelan won Silver in the U/15 High Jump and finished 4th in the 60m. Roisin Lacey was 8th in the 800 while newcomer Katie Brennan won Bronze in the U/18 60 m. All medal winners have qualified for the Nationals Indoor Championships which will take place in the coming month.
County Road Champions: The postponed County Road Championships took place in the Heritage Killenard on Wednesday last and the club had a very successful evening. Breda Mulcahy romped home to the Novice title ahead of team-mates Sadie Wheatley and Mairead O'Kane. This set the foundation for an easy victory in the team title with Ann Nicholl/Waugh completing the scoring. Colette English took the Masters crown from Mairead O'Kane. Again the team took the gold medals with Ann Nicholl/Waugh and Mairead Moore completing the scoring.
John Quinn had an excellent performance for Silver in the Novice men and with Colm McEvoy 4th, James Nolan a brilliant 6th and Conor Barry 7th another team title. Others to represent the club in the novice included Eoghan McTigue, Matt Moore and Peter Dobbyn.
In the masters men Colm Burke recorded the fastest time of the night for a comprehensive victory. Alas we had to settle for team silver, behind a strong Portlaoise team. Colm McEvoy 6th, Terence Ryan 9th and Niall English 12th completing the scoring.
Others to wear the club colours on the evening were Francis Fleming, David Buggy and Billy O'Neill 5th in the over 50.
