Ledwith on form in Rockford
IRISH INTERNATIONAL Andrew Ledwith of Fr. Murphy's, Meath, won the 31st Annual Tinryland AC Rockford road race in fine style at the weekend. From the start Ledwith signalled his intentions and quickly opened up a lead on the rest of the field along with former winner Mick Clohisey and Cillian O'Leary, both of Raheny, until the Kildalkey, Co. Meath native opened a decisive gap at the 2 mile mark.
Silver success for Bagenalstown U-12s
THE BAGENALSTOWN U12 Community games Soccer team ended a outstanding year by scooping an All Ireland Silver Medal in the recent Community Games in Athlone. This was the first year that the soccer team even made it past the first round of the Leinster so to reach the All Ireland was an enormous achievement in itself.
Magnificent Mullins through to final
MARTIN MULLINS from the Tinryland club made the long journey to St Coman's Roscommon on Saturday last to play in the U15s semi final against the home player Conor Egan. The Carlow man was in top form and set out his stall early in the first game when he served with accuracy and killed any ball that presented it self to him and went on to win 15-4. In the second game Mullins was fully in control of the match and the result was never in doubt as he went on to record a fine victory 15-6 and qualify for the All Ireland final against Roy Harkin of Cork in two weeks time.

When is a bunker not a bunker?
Some of the rules are unfair to the point of being infuriating, but the 'breach' by Dustin Johnson defies even our own comic character at the recent USPGA championship and takes the top spot in the league of the unfathomable regulations for unfairness which borders on the inexplicable.
Rossiter reaches final
JOHN ROSSITER made the long journey to Castlebar Co Mayo on Sunday last to take on the home player Martin Cronin in the EMAS All Ireland semi final. The Carlow man started slowly and took time to settle in the first game and he let the Mayo man dominate the match to win 21-16, Rossiter took control in the second and with good serving and some great kill shots he won 21-12 the third game was all one way traffic with the Carlow man showing some fine touches around the court he went on to win 21-5 and qualify for the All Ireland final against Tom O'Brien of Limerick.
League success for St. Abban's
THE CURTAIN came down on this year's senior track and field programme with the Woodies DIY National league final which was held in Tullamore. Having qualified for the Premier men's division final in 8th spot anything better was a bonus especially with Paul and Declan Byrne both missing due to ill health.
Top class field for this year's Rockford Road Race
THE 31st running of this event sponsored by Dan Morrissey Ltd since its inception will be held at 5.30 pm in Tinryland on Saturday next, 28th August.
All-time greatest poll shows glaring omissions
It was good television and doubtless caused a few eyebrows to be raised here and there, but the recent RTE 'Greatest Irish Sportsperson' drew conclusions with which many - naturally in any opinion poll - would not agree.
Young Carlow horse riders prove to be a force to be reckoned with
