Ryan looks forward to semi-final showdown with Antrim

Tuesday February 09 2010

' AT THIS time of the year it is more about the performance than the result so in that respect, after a sluggish enough we had a lively second half and I was happy with their application,' declared Carlow manager Kevin Ryan after his sides convincing nine point victory though admitting he was disappointed that UCD, due to Fitzgibbon Cup commitments, fielded a shadow team.

' With an eye on the league we'd be doing training during the week of these matches that you wouldn't normally do but I'd be happy enough with where we're at.

' We have 26 lads hurling this week-end, including the lads playing with their colleges and with the college lads away we have a chance to look at others, give them a run in a competitive fixture,' stated the Waterford man.

'Games bring on a team and apart from the Walsh Cup we have had a series of challenge games, we beat Limerick last week but saying that Kildare beat us the week before.

' But as I say these games are about performance, trying out things and having won today we have called off a game against Waterford on Tuesday night as we now play Antrim in the semi-final next week-end, playing them again in the league in Belfast the following week, that's the big one,' signed off manager Kevin Ryan who steered Carlow to Christy Ring Cup success and a respectable 12th place on hurling's order of merit last year.
