'IT'S BEEN a brilliant year,' is how Borris VS captain Ann Murphy views the last six months for the south Carlow school's camogie teams, and more particular their graduation to Saturday's all-Ireland Senior B final.
Explaining that there are only about four leaving certs on the senior team which includes up to ten third years, she sees a rosy future for the game in the Borris school.
'I knew we'd a great chance of getting this far. Three of us (Ann, Margaret Simpson and Michelle Kelly) have won an all-Ireland so we knew what was going to be ahead of us,' she echoing a confidence bred from winning and from difficult positions.
The Rangers player emphasised the benefit of having had a season in the As which has given Borris an edge they might not otherwise have developed.
'We knew coming back from a tough level that it would be that little bit easier, so we all
said we'd step up to the mark and give it our best shot.' The team's tall half-forward felt the Derry assignment was the toughest of the campaign.
'The team was very nervous going out, but by half time that was shook out of usÉthe second half was a whole new storyÉcame back, won the match - brilliant.'
Now to the big one. 'Going out in Derry we knew it'd be no easy task, and now that we've got that over us we all know that if we want something that badly we can always do it,' Ann encouraged by heir recovery from a half-time deficit of seven points.
'It took the teachers to pick us up at half time and we needed that encouragement but when we got it we did it.'
She shares the oft-held belief that the strength of the opposition is not a factor if they themselves play to the limits of their strength and ability.
'We'll play our own game - it doesn't matter who hey have; our girls will be expected to stand up.'
