CARLOW MINOR Camogie team play in the All Ireland "C" Final at Ashbourne on Saturday next.
Carlow have qualified for the final by finishing unbeaten in a group of five from Louth, Meath, Kildare and Westmeath. The Carlow girls then accounted for Cavan 3-8 to 2-6 in the semi final.
Armagh were also top of a group which included teams from Cavan, Mayo and Roscommon. They accounted for Meath in their semi final.
This Carlow squad of players is the result of a youth policy started by Carlow Camogie Board some five years ago. Success has been earned at Leinster U-14, Leinster and All Ireland U-16 levels. Carlow also appeared in the Minor final last year beaten by Laoise by five points.
The Carlow team will be powered by a number of players from the panel of 2009 and some experienced players – Amy Skelton, Maria Kehoe, Emma Kelly, Michelle Kelly, Kate Nolan, Margaret Murphy, Katie O'Byrne, Shauna Barcoe, Olivia McDonald, Ann Murphy, Ciara Quirke, Susan Williams, Collette Malone, Sarah Jane Burke and Sarah Foley. Also on the panel are girls who won U-16 All Ireland honours this year – Niamh Curran, Ann Marie Kelly, Cloe Kenny, Lorraine Bible, Michelle Nolan, Maria Carroll, Eleanor Treacy and Rebecca O'Dwyer.
The quality of Armagh is unknown except that they beat Meath, a team which Carlow struggled against before winning 2-5 to 0-4 in July. They cannot be taken for granted if Carlow are to win another All Ireland.
