Borris girls face tough challenge in Kilkenny in Junior 'A' final

Tuesday February 16 2010

BORRIS Vocational School, already on the trail of an all-Ireland Senior B camogie title when they play the Munster champions on March 6, have an opportunity to further boost the school's sporting stock when they face Loreto, Kilkenny in the Leinster Junior A camogie final in Clara (on the Carlow/Kilkenny border) on Sunday at 2pm. It would be a very significant triumph for the Co. Carlow girls as the school won the B edition last year and the C category the previous season – a very rare occurrence in the game.

And they have high hoops of returning home with the silver with senior players Kate Nolan, Mary Ellen Doyle, Katie Byrne, Ciara Quirke, Emma Kelly and Shauna Barcoe on the team coached by senior manager Orla Bambury.

Borris have defeated the others in the competition Col. Bhride, Enniscorthy, Loreto Kilkenny and Callan with the top two qualifying for the decider.

"It will be a very tough matchÉwe played them this year and only won by a point," recalls Orla a former Kildare inter-county player who now plays with Paulstown, but feels the experience of the senior girls will give Borris the edge.
