Big match reaction
Shem Brophy
The always smiling Town boss was naturally thrilled with the win but the Ballyragget native was feeling the cold afterwards: 'One more week and we would have had Santa here' joked the Kilkenny man. '13 weeks is a bit ridiculous of a break between a semi final and a final but in Carlow there's a lot of football and hurling and both have to bet fair attention'. He didn't take any personal plaudits 'There's two men in this club that deserve most of the credit and that's Barry and Karol English they're the lads that do all the training and all the motivational stuff and it's credit to them that Carlow Town have this championship'.
Ruairi Dunbar
The lethal free taker seemed to think the low scoring second half was to do with the temperature 'It got colder in the second half I think' shuddered the full forward. 'Delighted to be back up senior, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves, since January, and now it's December. This was our goal, to get back up senior, fair play to Rangers, if that's their second team like, they're some outfit, I want to thank all the lads involved especially the selectors they were fantastic'.
Paul Dunbar
'It's a great day for the club, but as Brian Cowen would say, we need to look forward and give the senior championship a serious push' said the proud Town man. 'Today was always going to be a game of hare and hound, the hare got away and the hound was never going to catch him today,' summed up Dunbar senior. He felt one of the goals may have been lucky but said 'in a county final what's luck and what's not?'
Karol English
'It was a long year, we had good preparation but this was our number one prize,' admitted the midfielder. 'It'll take a few years for us to reach the current senior champions who are red hot, but we will get there, we're building, with good intentions and that's what will count.'
Paudie O'toole
'We'll take it on the chin. We probably performed to our maximum last week and they had their homework done and were far hungrier than us today,' said the MLR boss. 'The wind was very strong, and they got a run on us and we had no reply, those 9 points were too much for us today. This time of the year we're physically light, and they're a big strong physical team and we couldn't compete today.'
Eoin Doyle
'We underperformed today, and they had a great start and were more up for it than we were. They were six points up before we knew where we were,' said the full forward. He didn't agree that MLR have won enough medals this year. 'Well maybe some of the lads have a good few this year but some of the rest of us are slim enough now,' he laughed.
