CARLOW CHAMPION trainer Willie Mullins has been honoured for a second successive year in winning the National Hunt Award. Horse Racing Ireland hosted the Annual Irish Horse Racing Awards in the Leopardstown pavilion, Dublin, last week.

This is the eighth year of the awards which are voted on by the Irish Racing Media to recognize excellence in the sport of horse racing.

Champion National hunt trainer Willie Mullins from Closutton, won the National Hunt Award for the second time, having taken the award for the first time last year.

As a trainer, Mullins has won just about every major prize in Ireland, most of the big ones in the UK, and a couple in France, as well for good measure, The Grand National, the King George, a couple of Supreme Novices' Hurdles, five Hennessey's, multiple Cheltenham Bumpers and La Grande Course do Haies d'Auteuil.

Katie Walsh who rides regularly out of the Mullins yard, was honoured in the Outstanding Achievement Category, where for the first time in the history of the awards there were joint winners following a tied vote, for she shared the award with Trainer Jessica Harrington.

Queen Mother Champion chase winner, Big Zeb, trained by Colm Murphy in neighbouring Wexford was crowned 2010 Horse of the Year.
