Some of the rules are unfair to the point of being infuriating, but the 'breach' by Dustin Johnson defies even our own comic character at the recent USPGA championship and takes the top spot in the league of the unfathomable regulations for unfairness which borders on the inexplicable.
All-time greatest poll shows glaring omissions
It was good television and doubtless caused a few eyebrows to be raised here and there, but the recent RTE 'Greatest Irish Sportsperson' drew conclusions with which many - naturally in any opinion poll - would not agree.

Carlow's amateur sport stars deserve a lot more recognition
TALKING GOLF recently? Betcha it was about the Irish Open and how the Irish fared. Many of you were probably there and enjoying the event with its international atmosphere. Even a host of enthusiasts from Carlow were in Killarney. But real drama for knowledgeable locals - the few who even knew what was going on in Co. Clare - was the amazing progress of Carlovian John Greene in the South of Ireland championship in Lahinch.

FOLLOWING 27 holes Brede Brophy, last year's Lady Captain, emerged as the winner, claiming her first lady Captain's prize at Mount Wolseley on Saturday last.
Golfer John engineers superb win in South of Ireland tourney
CARLOW GOLF Club, 111 years on the go, finally has its first home-grown male adult championship winner. UCD masters student John Greene caused local celebrations when he captured the South of Ireland title at Lahinch on Wednesday and was feted by members at his homecoming on Friday.
