O'Hanrahans limber up for semi-final with a good win

Tuesday September 07 2010

THE O'HANRAHANS finished the MFC A league campaign on high at Deerpark on Wednesday when defeating their crosstown rivals in a very lively match which was actually a dead rubber.

The winners were in the semi-final draw at last (Tuesday) evening's county board meeting along with St Andrew's, Naomh Eoin and Slaney Rangers.

The Blues opened with two points and led 3-5 to 0-4 at the break but a flurry from the YIs which produced 1-5 on the bounce closed to two points before a high Blues delivery went straight to the net.

National athletics champion Simon Doyle and soccer prodigy Graham Delaney were the winner's leading player while Eire Og relied upon Sean Wogan Conor Murphy Mark Fitzgerald Niall Swan Cody Geoghegan Darragh O'Brien Conor Walsh and topscorer Niall Quinlan to keep them in the hunt.

O'Hanrahans scorers: Graham Delaney 2-3, Lee Walker 1-5, Simon Doyle 1-0 Brian Power and Sean Cawley 0-1 each.

Eire Og scorers: Niall Quinlan 0-7 frees Darragh O'Brien 1-0 Niall Byrne Cody Geoghegan and Conor Walsh 0-1 each.

Blues manager Andy Larkin was certainly not talking up his charges' chances of a first Deerpark minor championship since '96 but was full in praise for their commitment and discipline. "Talk to me after…but I'm very happy with this group of lads; they're a credit to themselves and their families," said former amateur boxer Andy who coached the same group to the '09 county 16s title.
