Tuesday August 31 2010

NAOMH EOIN 1-12 MILFORD 1-06: NAOMH EOIN advanced to the semi final of the junior football 'A' championship, after defeating Milford at Tinryland on Wednesday last. Milford's Ross Townsend raised the first white flag after two minutes, Declan Slye tacked on Naomh Eoin's first score four minutes later.

Brian Treacy and Pauric McDonagh edged Naomh Eoin 0-3 to 0-2 ahead by the eighteen minute. Milford kept up sustained pressure as each side played lively football with all parts of the pitch being visited, however it was the ability of the Naomh Eoin forwards to take scores was the real difference between the sides. Sean Kinsella Three points in the space of four minutes from Brian Treacy, Matthew Roberts, and Colin Rea enabled Naomh Eoin to lead by 0-6 to 0-3 at the break.

On the restart Naomh Eoin with good team steadily increased their lead with scores from Colin Rea left half back Eamonn Nolan, Declan Slye and Brian Treacy as they were six points clear going in to the final fifteen minutes, and a well worked Matthew Roberts goal increased their lead further. Milford rallied and also enjoyed good possession and Tommy Dowling brought the best out of Ronan Nolan with a super shot as the net minder got his fingers to the ball to turn it around the post, but the Naomh Eoin defence with close attention closed down the best efforts of Paul Haughney, Paul Mooney Christy O'Neill and Jakub Mikolajczyk (affectionately known as(' Jacko') in the closing stages, although they did try hard but Naomh Eoin were too far in front to close the gap.

Tommy Dowling and Ross Townsend played their hearts out at midfield in defence Sean O'Gorman, Eamonn Townsend, the lively Tommy Pender and Willie Delaney defended well.
