EIRE OG 2-10 FENAGH 0-07: EIRE OG senior footballers eased them selves away from the relegation zone of the Michael Lyng Motors senior football championship when they defeated Fenagh in the last game in the league section at McGrath Park on Sunday evening. This win places Eire Og in forth place and finishes their interest in this year's championship.
The town men enjoyed a great opening ten minutes and were three points in credit courtesy of Gary Powell, Bernard Hennessy and Bryan Carbery, before Fenagh's left half forward James Kinsella opened their account in the twelfth minute. A minute later the black and white Fenagh men were a trifle unlucky to see James Nolans shot for goal hit the butt of the upright and turn at right angles in to the arms of Robert Moore who cleared outfield. Fenagh came more in to the game and were on level terms at 0-3 each, with points from James Kinsella and an excellent Stephen O'Brien left footed point, after taking a pass from Thomas Walsh, ten minutes before the break. Surprising Eire Og didn't score for the last twenty minutes of the first half, as the half time score remained the same Eire Og 0-3 Fenagh 03.
The second half was in complete contrast to the first as Eire Og took a grip on the game from the restart with Murtagh Ware and Bernard Hennessy, sending over two points inside of two minutes. Five minutes later and a hard shot from corner forward Gary Powell was parried by a defender, as the rebound came to Jordan Lowry who sent a rocket to the Fenagh net. Twelve minutes from the end and Eire Og had opened up a ten point lead 2-8 to 0-4 Cormac Mullins scoring the second goal after earlier scoring two points.
Two points from Tommy Dowling and Bryan Carbery closed The red and white men's account. Michael Murphy who is a minor came on and kicked Fenaghs fourth point as James Kinsella, centre field man Michael Murphy and Frank Murphy scored their last three points.
Even though Eire Og won by nine points Fenagh enjoyed a lot of good possession but were unable to turn it in to scores as there was good defending from Eire Og, particularly Vinny Kavanagh who was rock solid all through aided by Shane Myers , Christy Bolger and Richard Mahon. Murtagh Ware at midfield along with Derek Hayden although when Thomas Walsh came to midfield both Hayden and Walsh cancelled one another out.
Tommy Dowling, Gary Powell, Bernard Hennessy and Bryan Carbery were the pick of the forwards, with Cormac Mullins shown how it's done scoring 1-2 inside of five minutes after coming on. Eire Og also changed goalies at half time with Michael Hennessy coming on for Robert Moore.
