Club liaison officers give progress update

ALL CARLOW respective team liaison officers gave a detailed account of the stage each individual team and panel in training and coaching were at the co. committee meeting on Thursday last at Dr. Cullen Park. The senior hurlers and senior footballers were congratulated on being in the Walsh and O'Byrne shield finals respectively, and were wished well for their next games Waterford on Saturday in the football league and Antrim on Sunday in the hurling league in Belfast.
The county minor hurlers and footballers are busy preparing for their respective championships, with big numbers at all training sessions.
This year their will be only two rounds club minor football championship starting in March, with the minor hurling championship not beginning until after the leaving cert examination. This is to allow the minor hurling and minor football management to coach and prepare the panels to the highest standards.
The county under 21 footballers were congratulated on winning the four county Shield defeating Wexford in the final. The Friends Of Carlow were thanked for organising and sponsoring this event.
After a request from Carlow their under 21 Leinster football championship game with Offaly has been moved to Saturday week March 6th at Tullamore.
Carlow Co Committee are to ask Croke Park to alloy the under twenty one hurling panel to commence training the first of April and not the 1st of May as laid down.
Four delegates explained their positions fully in regards recent press coverage, and that they are fully in support of all teams and all county matters.
All clubs are to put a child protection officer in place as soon as possible with a matter of urgency, this club officer will liaise with the co officer Paul Jackman .Training will be provided for all officers, in the immediate future.
Co Alcohol & Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) Tommy Murphy thanked all clubs for having selected a club ASAP officer. He told delegates that there is a National Conference in Croke Park on Saturday March 27th and all club delegates are encouraged to attend. There will be a Carlow ASAP meeting on March 10 to discuss and make arrangements for the up coming conference.
Clubs were told that the prepared plans and costings that will be submitted for planning permission for the Centre Of Excellence, at Lumcloon Fenagh will be available in two weeks time and then all club chairpersons, secretaries and co committee delegates will be invited to a meeting to discuss and give their approval of the project. This is one of the biggest projects ever undertaken by Carlow GAA, and will benefit all the youth of our county in years to come.
A number of player transfers were deemed out of order with a large number in order and were passed or rejected by Thursdays attendance.
There was big interest in all the club championship draws for 2010 listed below. With the draw for the Junior football championship B having to be drawn again after it was found Mount Leinster Rngs were not in it.
Culture agus Teanga. Carlow is one of the counties targeted by the Boston College to record and write down all the stories, poems and recitations and folk lore both on and off the field in the GAA as far back as we can go the 'characters' in all the clubs and in the county, and also a time to explain the famous words 'Robust Play' There will be more information shortly.
