Tuesday August 31 2010
KILDAVIN-CLONEGAL 6-11 O'HANRAHANS 0-03: KILDAVIN-CLONEGAL swept aside the challenge of O'Hanrahans and also jumped to the top of the leader board in group 'B' of the Michael Lyng Motors senior football championship at McGrath Park on Saturday evening writes Tommy Murphyy. Going in to this game Kildavin-Clonegal were level on points with Rathvilly each with seven, although Rathvilly had a better scoring difference.
The results from McGrath Park and Spellman Park were in sharp contrast, as Kildavin-Clonegal with their twenty six point win, get a semi-final place, and Rathvilly with their two point loss to Kilbride fell back to third place, as Kilbride move in to second place.
Kildavin-Clonegal met with little resistance from an O'Hanrahans team that were short a large number of players some opting for another code on Sunday morning. Kildavin-Clonegal came to McGrath Park determined to win and increase their scoring difference, as it turned out the two points for the winning of the game was enough to put them through, and they also had a plus sixteen point scoring difference, which they didn't have to use.
The south east Carlow men started like a jet taking off on a runway and had finished the game as a contest at half time as they led by 4-6 to 0-2. No doubt manager Tommy Wogan former Eire Og mentor has his charges in flying form, and they are improving with every game.
O'Hanrahans were in a different league and had nothing to play for as they had finished fourth in the league table and Saturdays game win or lose wouldn't change that.
Kildavin-Clonegal while they wont be complaining will be disappointed that the opposition challenge wasn't a lot more stiffer, to give them a guideline of where they are.
The red and black men added a further 2-5 for the last period and suffice to say that all players were at their best with Mark Nolan John Kirwin, Noel Conway, Richie Sinnott and Daryl Roberts all scoring goals. For O'Hanrahans, Karl English, great goalie cum outfield player John Brennan, the great hearted Marc Carpenter, Paul Condron and Gavin Walker tried all they knew.
Kildavin-Clonegal, now await for the two winners to come from the quarter finals and then go in to the hat with Mt. Leinster Rngs for an open draw semi final pairings.
