Tinryland get the better of battling Ballon side
TINRYLAND 2-10 BALLON 1-10: THEY CAN blow so hot they'd need anti-perspirant and so cold they need anoraks, but then that's Tinryland this season, and they required a dose of the higher temperature to see them over a resolute Ballon in the SFC in Dr. Cullen Park on Sunday, writes Paul Donaghy. Only for a sizzling opening half they would be out of the championship, and but for lanky Glen Doyle that chapter may not even have been written, for the No. 14 was the executioner-in-chief with 1-6, and had a hand in the opening goal too.
Eire Og ease worries
EIRE OG 2-10 FENAGH 0-07: EIRE OG senior footballers eased them selves away from the relegation zone of the Michael Lyng Motors senior football championship when they defeated Fenagh in the last game in the league section at McGrath Park on Sunday evening. This win places Eire Og in forth place and finishes their interest in this year's championship.
Fancied Old Leighlin fall to MLR
MOUNT LEINSTER RANGERS 1-03 OLD LEIGHLIN 0-05: WHAT ODDS on Rangers for the senior double? They seem to have no peers with the caman and they're making intimidating inroads into the football scene again by scalping the fancied Old Leighlin in the SFC in Dr. Cullen Park on Sunday evening. It wasn't a pretty game, far from it, but the contest was intense and dour; defences mean and unyielding and Rangers coming out marginally on top.
Ballinabranna best in derby
BALLINABRANNA 2-13 LEIGHLINBRIDGE 1-09: BALLINABRANNA made sure they were not going to go out of the intermediate football championship at McGrath Park on Sunday as the defeated neighbours Leighlinbridge by seven points in a game of "winner takes all." This was a strong championship performance from Ballinabranna, with good team work, players working for one another, and at this stage look serious title contenders.
Aiming to turn it around in Tullow
THERE IS an air of resignation around Tullow that the local Gaelic football club will ply its trade in the intermediate grade in 2011. Defeat by Rathvilly on Sunday consigns them to the relegation tournament for the second successive season without a win and on the back of a dreadful league campaign.
Naomh Eoin advance
NAOMH EOIN 1-12 MILFORD 1-06: NAOMH EOIN advanced to the semi final of the junior football 'A' championship, after defeating Milford at Tinryland on Wednesday last. Milford's Ross Townsend raised the first white flag after two minutes, Declan Slye tacked on Naomh Eoin's first score four minutes later.
Blues swept aside by Kildavin-Clonegal
KILDAVIN-CLONEGAL 6-11 O'HANRAHANS 0-03: KILDAVIN-CLONEGAL swept aside the challenge of O'Hanrahans and also jumped to the top of the leader board in group 'B' of the Michael Lyng Motors senior football championship at McGrath Park on Saturday evening writes Tommy Murphyy. Going in to this game Kildavin-Clonegal were level on points with Rathvilly each with seven, although Rathvilly had a better scoring difference.
St. Pat's hit net to go through
ST. PATRICK'S 3-07 KILDAVIN-CLONEGAL 0-11: ST. PATRICK'S juniors compensated for the demise of their seniors on the same turf 24 hours previously when they qualified for the JFC A final (against Naomh Eoin or Palatine) at Dr. Cullen Park on Friday, writes Paul Donaghy.
Fighting Cocks take second spot
FIGHTING COCKS 0-09 ST. MULLINS 0-05: THE FIGHTING Cocks with a four point win over St. Mullins took second place in group A of the intermediate football championship at McGrath Park on Saturday evening in a game that had far too much needle, St. Mullins took third place and will meet Naomh Eoin in the quarterfinal, while the Fighting Cocks will meet Ballinabranna in the other quarter final.
Facile victory for Eire Og against Rathvilly
EIRE OG 0-14 RATHVILLY 1-07: EIRE OG played some of their best football of the MFC in Rathvilly on Thursday where they went through the interval 9-2 in front. Unfortunately for them they failed - also because of other results - to qualify for the knock-outs and will finish their commitments when meeting the O'Hanrahans this week.
