A Legend picks 'greatest hour'

Tuesday December 20 2011

Another man who needs no introduction. the hurler with the legend tattoo is a county hurler, involved with the Christy Ring teams and after 2011 is now a Leinster club champion with mount leinster rangers

1)Winning the Leinster Intermediate hurling title with Mount Leinster Rangers.

This was our greatest hour, to win this was a remarkable achievement both personally and for the club. You grow up going around the country watching your hero's Eire og win leinster titles and contest All-ireland finals and you think as a kid that maybe someday that could be you, well in 2011 it happened and all with a group of players living in a 10km radius who you have known all your life and there your friends. Also for the good of Carlow hurling as it gives it a huge boost and hopefully now the county will unite behind us as we did with Erin's Own when they gave us such great memories when they contested the All-ireland Junior Hurling final. It made all those 6am training mornings before work worth it. 2) Winning the county Senior hurling final. This was a proud moment for our club. We had contested the previous six finals so this was our seventh on the trot. Even though we had won 3 championships in 4 years we had a lot of knockers even people from down around our own area believed we should be winning more. All this negativity is a distraction as it doesn't help players. So here we were after losing the 09 final facing Naomh Eoin a club steeped in tradition and probably being honest the last team you'd want to meet in a final as they are a serious team in any final and yes they had beaten us in 2 finals through the years so everyone was saying we wouldn't beat them. So to beat them was a major achievement as it showed that this team was a serious outfit which we know we have been for the last 10 years. 3) Tipperary winning the All-ireland Minor football final. I know you're probably thinking a strange one, but what a remarkable story this was. Who are Tipperary in Football regarded as nobodies?

But it just went to show when you have a group of people who come together and form a solid bond there capable of doing the greatest of things. Dreams can be turned in to reality with effort hard work guidance and honesty. A remarkable achievement.
