Kilbride edge out champs
KILBRIDE 0-07 RATHVILLY 0-05: RATHVILLY'S perceived invincibility ran thin in Spellman Park on Saturday when they surrendered their automatic SFC semi-final place when crashing rather tamely to a very enthusiastic Kilbride who led for much of the trip. The champions have won a county title with five scores before, but this time they were on the receiving end for much of the contest, but should have made more use of a generous free-count in their favour in the second half.
Silver success for Bagenalstown U-12s
THE BAGENALSTOWN U12 Community games Soccer team ended a outstanding year by scooping an All Ireland Silver Medal in the recent Community Games in Athlone. This was the first year that the soccer team even made it past the first round of the Leinster so to reach the All Ireland was an enormous achievement in itself.
Fancied Old Leighlin fall to MLR
MOUNT LEINSTER RANGERS 1-03 OLD LEIGHLIN 0-05: WHAT ODDS on Rangers for the senior double? They seem to have no peers with the caman and they're making intimidating inroads into the football scene again by scalping the fancied Old Leighlin in the SFC in Dr. Cullen Park on Sunday evening. It wasn't a pretty game, far from it, but the contest was intense and dour; defences mean and unyielding and Rangers coming out marginally on top.
Ledwith on form in Rockford
IRISH INTERNATIONAL Andrew Ledwith of Fr. Murphy's, Meath, won the 31st Annual Tinryland AC Rockford road race in fine style at the weekend. From the start Ledwith signalled his intentions and quickly opened up a lead on the rest of the field along with former winner Mick Clohisey and Cillian O'Leary, both of Raheny, until the Kildalkey, Co. Meath native opened a decisive gap at the 2 mile mark.
Eire Og ease worries
EIRE OG 2-10 FENAGH 0-07: EIRE OG senior footballers eased them selves away from the relegation zone of the Michael Lyng Motors senior football championship when they defeated Fenagh in the last game in the league section at McGrath Park on Sunday evening. This win places Eire Og in forth place and finishes their interest in this year's championship.
Inside Sport
Tinryland get the better of battling Ballon side
TINRYLAND 2-10 BALLON 1-10: THEY CAN blow so hot they'd need anti-perspirant and so cold they need anoraks, but then that's Tinryland this season, and they required a dose of the higher temperature to see them over a resolute Ballon in the SFC in Dr. Cullen Park on Sunday, writes Paul Donaghy. Only for a sizzling opening half they would be out of the championship, and but for lanky Glen Doyle that chapter may not even have been written, for the No. 14 was the executioner-in-chief with 1-6, and had a hand in the opening goal too.
Nolan and Lillis star for Naomh Brid
NAOMH BRID 0-14 MISEAL 0-00: POWERED by a magnificent mid-field pairing of Eric Nolan and Keith Lillis Naomh Brid romped to an impressive trap-to-line victory in the Carlow U-14 B HC final in Dr Cullen Park on Monday evening. Despite playing into the strong wind the Leighlin parish boys eked out a 0-4 to 00 interval lead, three of those points only coming in the closing five minutes of half.
Timmons heads Saints in right direction
BALLYMURPHY CELTIC 1 ST. FIACC'S 2: Crettyard Utd 3 New Oak Boys 3 CELTIC APPLIED early pressure with Shem Dwyer snapping a shot just wide but then left themselves exposed to the swift counter attack. Fiacc's Pat Scully and Rory Hurley breaking through only for James Kennedy to make good saves as the game progressed.
Rugby ticket price hike is disgraceful
PERHAPS THEY exist in some sphere way above the rest of us humans. Perhaps they pay more attention to the pin-striped society and blazer crests denoting their varying levels of importance. But for sure they are blind to the severe financial pinching us mere mortals of finite financial are encountering.
