THE WORK of Glór Cheatharlach in the promotion of the Irish language and culture was acknowledged nationally when the results of the Glór na nGael 2009 competition were announced live on Raidió na Gaeltachta on Friday last.

Members of the local group were thrilled to hear that they won three major prizes in the prestigious competition.

Competing at level three of the competition for larger towns, Glór Cheatharlach was awarded second place and ¤3,000 in prize money while KCLR 96fm, with its flagship weekly show Tobar an Cheantair, was judged overall winner with prize money of ¤1,500.

A third award came to Glór Cheatharlach for its promotion and support of literary works as Gaeilge.
