Super freaky ode to Richie Kavanagh

Friends Phil McEvoy and Eoin Stanley in the video for their song 'Richie Kavanagh'
RICHIE KAVANAGH, the flame-haired troubadour from Garryhill, has had a love song written about him by two musicians from Dublin.
The song, which was posted last week on You Tube, is simply called Richie Kavanagh and was written by two friends, Phil McEvoy and Eoin Stanley under the name The Midnight Phil Eoin Callers.
To accompany the tribute to their idol, Phil and Eoin also made a music video which was last week leaked onto You Tube.
The film's a throwback to the cheesy music vids made popular by MTV in its heyday, all white suits, smoke machines and sulky pouts.
Sounding like a gay paean to a lost lover, the song to Richie oozes schmaltz and schmooze, just like the worst excesses of Lionel Ritchie's hits.
But the composers are adamant that the song is written from a female point of view.
'If you listen closely to the lyrics, you'll hear that the song is written from a female prospective,' Eoin explained. 'The rest of the music we do is off beat and a bit weird so Richie would be an influence on us.'
Back in Garryhill, Richie is somewhat ambiguous about what the song means.
'It's a quare one, isn't it?,' he said succinctly when asked of his opinion of the song. 'It's a pity those nice Spice Girls aren't singing it. I'm flattered that they'd want to write a song about me but I'm not sure of the lyrics. People do all sorts of strange things, you can't stop them.'
The Midnight Phil Eoin Callers, who released their debut album on-line on Sunday say that they're making fun of Richie.
'We're big fans of Richie's,' Eoin concludes. 'We're not taking the p*** out of him, this is a tribute to him.'
