Speeding driver must pay €250 to SVDP
A DEREEN Heights man was directed to pay €250 to the St. Vincent de Paul when he appeared before last Wednesday's sitting of Carlow District Court.
Patrick Canning (45), 59 Dereen Heights, Tullow Road, Carlow was charged with speeding at Straboe, Carlow on May 6, 2011.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and the court heard Canning was clocked driving at 111km/h in a 80km/h zone.
Canning said he thought the area was governed by a 100km/h speed limit. ' That doesn't help', said Judge Anderson. Canning said he didn't know how fast he had been driving and had gotten mixed up between kilometres and miles.
The court heard he had five previous convictions.
Judge David Anderson directed Canning to pay €250 to the St. Vincent de Paul before April 25.
