Saoirse looks sparkling at film premiere
CARLOW'S Hollywood star Saoirse Ronan managed to look elegant despite the weather conditions when she stepped out on the red carpet at the premiere of her latest film The Lovely Bones in London.
The film, directed by Peter Jackson, centres on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family and her killer from heaven.
The 15-year-old from Ardattin wore a grey strappy chiffon dress and despite the winter chill was delighted to be out on the night.
'It was great to grow as an actress,' she said to the gathered media. 'I think there is a little bit of pressure but I'm trying not to think about it.'
Director Jackson had plenty of praise for the young star.
This is the beginning of a very long career for her,' he said.
Saoirse rubbed shoulders with Royals on the night also. The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall attended the wet and windswept Royal Film Performance of The Lovely Bones, a film based on the acclaimed best-selling novel by Alice Sebold.
The movie already has an Oscar buzz around it and stars previous Academy Award winners Rachel Weisz and Susan Sarandon.
Sarandon covered up in a dark coat with glitzy sequined shoulders for the event while the Duchess wore a teal blue velvet dress and matching evening cape.
