THE Institute of Technology Carlow has become the first higher educational body to be awarded the prestigious CPD (Continuing Professional Development) Accredited Employer standard from Engineers Ireland. This historic award followed an audit of its lifelong learning practices for their academic engineering staff.

'The CPD Accredited Employer standard for IT Carlow is pioneering as it benefits the engineering staff,' John Power, Chartered Engineer and Director General of Engineers Ireland, said:

'It ensures Ireland's future engineers are being taught by professionals who are committed to staying up to date with industry developments.'

I.T. Carlow has over 4,000 students with an academic staff of 200, across three schools of learning. The School of Engineering employs more than 80 staff in two departments.

The institute is committed to research and to enterprise related development in the South Leinster region.

Engineers Ireland's CPD Accredited Employer standard is co-funded by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment under the National Training Plan.
