Locals were employed to do 'the dirty work'

Tuesday February 09 2010

TJ CARROLL, in running his multi-millioneuro prostitution ring, regularly employed local people in Carlow to carry out his dirty work, according to local Gardaí.

Carroll would employ taxi men to ferry the girls and women around, but also used them to pick up money from brothels around the country when his business was booming.

'Carlow people were employed to go and collect money from brothels all around the country,' Detective Sergeant Gerry Egan, who was involved in the investigation into Carroll from the early days, explained. 'It could take a two-day trip for a driver to collect the money. He would have had places from Cork to Galway.'

Carroll also employed local petty criminals as his 'heavies' and would send them into his brothels to beat up the women who worked for him, according to Detective Egan.

Carroll also used the criminals to raid and wreck the brothels of his rivals and also to assault women who worked for them.
