TWO OF Carlow's best known figures, Bernard Jennings and Brendan Harding, have been travelling to deepest Kenya for years after hooking up with Carlow nun, Sr. Goretti Ward.

The intrepid duo visit Nuu, where Sr. Goretti lives, on an annual basis where Bernard and his team of opticians test and repair the eye-sight of hundreds of local people.

The pair have set up a charity called Asante to take care of eyesight in the region and on March 19, hope to promote their cause through a series of events in Carlow.

Over the past four years the team have tested over 2000 patients and from these almost 200 have had sight-restorative surgery. In a country where sight is life this work has proven invaluable to individuals, families and whole communities.

This year Brendan and Bernard would like to ask for your help by organising some small event among family, friends or work-colleagues to raise much-needed funds enabling the work to continue.

'We realise that at present the people of Haiti are in dire need of your donations but we fell sure that, as in the past, you will be generous with your support,' they said.

If you need help in organising or publicising your event please contact Brendan Harding on (087)2441888 or Bernard Jennings on (087) 9928161.
