Lecturer causes currency sensation

CARLOW IT lecturer Con Kennedy has become an overnight viral sensation having designed a tongue in cheek new Irish currency.
Last week using the social media platform Twitter Mr. Kennedy introduced his vision for a new look Irish currency, Punt Nua.
The design of a Punt Nua features familiar fames synonymous with Ireland's financial collapse and loss of sovereignty.
A graphic designer Mr. Kennedy (pictured inset) said the idea for the currency came to him following speculation that 'Ireland would leave the single currency either by choice or otherwise. That opened a number of thoughts and questions in my mind. If we are seeking to leave the euro we would need to plan the exit strategy now. What would that currency look like and who would feature on the new currency.'
He said 'An Punt Nua should honour those Irish patriots that helped our country, once again stand proud amongst fiscal nations with her own independent currency. I narrowed the list down to the following: Bertie Ahern, Brian Lenihan, Charlie Mccreevy, Brian Cowen, David Drumm, Sean Fitzpatrick. Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern graces the new £1 punt while former Finance Minister, the late Brian Lenihan, is chosen for the £5 punt note.
Former Finance Minister Charlie Mccreevy is chosen for the £10 punt and former Taoiseach Brian Cowen is the face of choice for £20.
Former Anglo chief David Drumm is his pick for the £50 and former Anglo chairman Sean Fitzpatrick is the face of the £100 punt nua.
