Kathleen lives it up at pre-Oscar lunch

Tuesday February 23 2010

THE CREATOR of Granny O'Grimm, the animated film that's been nominated for an Oscar, was last week hob-nobbing with Hollywood stars ahead of the glitzy ceremony next month.

Kathleen O'Rourke, a former teacher, was in Los Angeles with Brown Bag Film, the company that made the hilarious cartoon. In it, Granny O'Grimm retells the tale of Sleeping Beauty to her young grandchild to hilarious effect. The film was written by Kathleen who also narrates the story.

Last week, she attended a pre-Oscar luncheon where she met with the likes of George Clooney, Jeff Bridges, James Cameron and Sandra Bullock.

'I felt the inner teacher coming out in me with George Clooney,' she laughed. 'I wanted to tell him to sit still, he was messing so much. But he is gorgeous, he's as good looking in the flesh.'

Kathleen also got to meet one of her heroes, John Lassiter, who's head of Pixar, the company responsible for such films as Shrek as her schedule was crammed with meetings with producers and directors.

Her group also met Richie Baneham, a young animator from Tallaght who's shot to fame after being nominated for his work on Cameron's Avatar.

On Saturday, Kathleen is once again flying to Los Angeles where she'll attend more meets and greets ahead of the Oscar ceremony on Sunday, March 7.
