Judge says he doesn't care if motorist is 'from the moon'

A MAN who was before the court for driving without insurance was told by a Judge that he 'didn't care if he was from the moon' after his solicitor pleaded for leniency on the grounds that his client is a foreign national.

Grezegorz Pawel Galeza of 18 Riverbank, Poacher's Gate, Carlow is charged with driving without insurance at Old Burrin Road on October 23 last and failing to produce insurance.

He asked for an adjournment at Wednesday's sitting as he didn't his documentation in court to prove that he had insurance cover on the day.

Judge Harnett said Galeza had had since October to his papers in order after he claimed to have already produced his insurance to the gardai.

'He is a foreign national,' said his solicitor.

'I couldn't care less if he was from the moon,' replied Judge William Harnett. He adjourned the matter to March 3.
