A YOUNG Graiguenamanagh girl who stole the hearts of the nation last year was the first fan to come face-to-face with Jedward on Saturday afternoon.

Jamie Murphy from Tobair Bhride, Graiguenamanagh, was among 200 screaming fans who queued at St. Michael's Theatre in New Ross to meet the Grimes twins prior to their performance later that night in the town park as part of the JFK Dunbrody Festival.

John and Edward posed for photographs with a delighted Jamie, who was in tears with excitement over meeting them.

Jamie underwent six hours of life-saving surgery to treat Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus and Scoliosis in London's Great Ormond Street Hospital last September.

Prior to her operation Jamie had been using a BiPAP essential piece of breathing apparatus for over a month to get more air into her lungs.

However, it was still a huge worry whether Jamie was strong enough and able for having such a long, dangerous operation.

Little Jamie's condition had been deteriorating so quickly that doctors gave her just six months to live.

She was on a priority waiting list at Our Lady's Hospital in Crumlin but it was unlikely she would make it into surgery before it was too late.

Her desperate parents Emer and Peter went public with their story and an unnamed donor came forward to pay for Jamie to have the operation at a cost of some €100,000.
