CARLOW HOPEFUL Kathleen O'Rourke didn't manage to get her hands an Oscar at the glitzy ceremony on Sunday. The Ballyhide woman was beaten to the podium for best animated short film by 'Logorama' by Nicolas Schmerkin a little comedy about a world that was taken over by logos and is centred around a world taken over by corporations.
Hurt Locker is the big winner on the night and it took home six Oscars, including best director for Kathryn Bigelow, who became the first woman to take the honor at the 82nd annual Academy Awards. The Carlow comedienne and screenwriter is the writer behind 'Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty' the six minute film which was included was included in the nominations.
The film tells the tale of a twisted granny's take on Sleeping Beauty, who ends up terrifying her granddaughter with the story.
Nearly 30 people from the company travelled over with the hope of winning an Oscar, but it wasn't to be.
Kathleen made the most of the trip of her time in Hollywood though, and rubbed shoulders with many a star, including George Clooney - or 'Brad' Clooney, as a certain granny would call him!
