Fined for 'accidentally' parking in disabled bay

A YOUNG Carlow man who claimed he parked in a disabled bay by accident has been fined €150 by Judge William Harnett.
Alan McKenna, of 7 Loreto Avenue, Bishop's Meadows, Kilkenny, was charged with parking in the disabled bay at Hadden's car park on January 30 last.
Garda Robert Rasmussen said he issued an on-the-spot fine for the offence, but it was never paid.
McKenna said he didn't pay it as he didn't mean to park there. 'I pulled passed it and reversed into it. I didn't know it was a disabled space,' he claimed.
Garda Rasmussen informed the judge that the car park is well lit and the space clearly marked, though McKenna disputed this.
The judge held with the Garda and fined the defendant €150.
