A FOOTBALLER who went drinking after playing a championship match was fined ¤200 for being drunk in public.
Keith Hession of Knockarda, Palatine, was convicted of the offence on Tullow Street on October 5 last and he had further chargers of threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour and failure to comply with a garda's directions struck out.
The court heard that gardaí witnessed him shouting abuse at people on the street when he was very drunk.
'He played a championship match that day and the drink went to his head,' said his solicitor Brendan O'Flaherty. 'He hadn't been out in a number of months.'
