Disqualified driver is jailed for four months

Tuesday January 31 2012

A BILBOA MAN was jailed for four months when he appeared before Judge David Anderson at last week's sitting of Carlow District Court.

John Daly (47), Upper Tomard, Bilboa was charged with driving without insurance and driving licence, failing to produce both documents and driving while disqualified at Chaft Street on March 5, 2011.

He pleaded guilty to the charges. Garda Bernard Graham said at 1.05 p.m. on March 5 he was operating point duty and saw Daly.

The garda went after him and stopped him, suspecting Daly to be a disqualified driver.

Daly told Garda Graham he had got his licence back but it turned out he was driving while disqualified.

The court heard Daly has eight previous convictions including four for driving without insurance and one for driving while disqualified.

Acting for Daly solicitor Brendan O'flaherty said Daly had assured him he wasn't driving any more.

Judge Anderson sentenced him to four months imprisonment and put him off the road for ten years for driving without insurance and marked the other matters proven and taken into account.
