Brave Catherine gets back to work after knife attack by masked man

Catherine Smith nurses her injured hand as she gets straight back to work at her shop on Dublin Street, Carlow.
'I CAN'T thank the people of Carlow enough for their kindness, the place is like a florist here,' said shop keeper Catherine Smith who was home from hospital last week after being slashed with a knife during a robbery in her shop.
The brave newsagent was home from hospital on Tuesday and despite a badly injured and bandaged hand was back behind the counter the following day.
'When you are self employed you just have to get right back in to it. So far so good, I just wanted to get straight back in to things.'
Catherine sent a big thank you to the locals who called in to wish her well and gardaí for their kindness and quick response.
'The guards were brilliant. Being neighbours of mine, they were here so quick and they never left me. I can't thank them enough.'
She thanked also the students from nearby St Leo's College and CBS. 'The kids out of the school were mad at me for seeing me back at work so quickly.
'I never had so many cards and flowers, it is like as if they are all minding me.'
She promised herself that she wouldn't be nervous about getting back to work but says she never wants to go through that experience again.
'I wasn't defending the till or the money, I thought this was it. He got me in to a corner and I was trying to get out. I am so glad that it was only my hand that was injured. It could have been a lot worse.'
Catherine had her hand and ligaments slashed by a masked robber in the shop on Dublin Street.
'It was badly damaged but I'm starting to move my fingers now.
