GARDAI RESORT TO ARMED CHECKPOINTS TO COMBAT 'SEVERE AMOUNT OF BURGLARIES'

ARMED check points have been set up around the county in 'specific, strategic locations' to combat the number of robberies and burglaries in Carlow.

Sgt. John Foley said there was a whopping 20 burglaries across the county. 'Every part of Carlow is being targeted, Rathvilly, Carlow town, Leighlinbridge, Myshall, Kildavin and Tullow.

'There is a severe amount of burglaries and we are very concerned about it. To try combat it we are increasing the number of checkpoints around the county and we also have armed checkpoints in specific, strategic locations.'

Sgt. Foley urged people to be extra vigilant and to secure their property correctly, closing windows and doors.

He also said it was vital people report any suspicious activity to gardai.
