Thousands at St Mullins patron

THOUSANDS descended on picturesque St Mullins for the annual patron last Sunday. Huge numbers of local parishioners were joined by visitors from many parts of Ireland and abroad to pay their respects to the deceased in St Mullins Cemetery. Following the blessing of the water at the holy well, Mass was celebrated at the penal altar by Fr Edward Aughney, parish priest of St Mullins.

A LUCKY Tullow couple will be attending all Ireland's soccer matches in the new Aviva Stadium for free for the coming season. Veronica Ronan was the lucky winner of Parkville Soccer Club's fundraising draw and she received two season tickets for the new Lansdowne Road stadium, with the first match the upcoming clash with Argentina.

GARDAÍ IN Carlow are investigating a serious sexual assault that occurred near Governey Park, Graiguecullen, in the early hours of Friday morning. After the assault the woman, in a highly distressed state, ran for help in the Sleatty Street area where she banged on the doors of several houses.

CARLOW'S decentralisation plan, due to bring a further 200 civil servants to the town, has been shelved by the Government as a cost-saving measure. The plan to bring a further 200 workers from the Department of Trade, Enterprise and Innovation to Carlow has been postponed indefinitely as part of yesterday's revised €39.43 billion capital investment programme.

EMO OIL in Pollerton Business Park, Carlow, was last week ransacked after the main shutter on the building was damaged at the weekend. CCTV footage revealed that four youths with hoodies were involved in the incident. While the office was ransacked, nothing substantial was taken in the raid.
