€5,000 boost for Carlow Hospice Fund
MORE THAN €5,000 for the Carlow Hospice fund was raised by the Hacketstown community through a charity bingo and cabaret night during the week.
The local bingo committee, together with the help of a number of locals, organised a monster bingo night in the community centre on Wednesday followed by a karaoke cabaret in Boland's lounge on Saturday night.
Almost €3,000 was raised at the bingo and a further €2,000 was donated on Saturday night. A third fundraiser, a climb of Lughnaquilla, has already been organised by the committee for Sunday, May 16, weather permitting.
'The prizes were increased on the night of the bingo and we had Music by Peggy in Boland's on the Saturday. A big thank you to everyone who sponsored the event or came along and supported them,' said organiser Nellie Blake.
'People were delighted to get involved,' she added. 'And hopefully if the weather is good we will have a good turnout at the Lugnaquilla climb in May.'
