ON SUNDAY afternoon the 1st Bagenalstown Baden-Powell Scouts Troop celebrated their first birthday. The Scout Troop may be youthful, in many senses, but the afternoons party activities, particularly the premiere showing of thirty minute long DVD, chronicling the years wealth of activities and events, belie the fact that this marks an triumphant end to only the inaugural year.

The Graiguecullen/Killeshin Parish fifth Solemn Novena to our Lady of Perpetual Help begins on Monday April 12 and will run for nine consecutive Monday nights. They invite people during Lent to place their petitions in the boxes provided in St Clare's and Holy Cross. These petitions will be placed at the front of the cross in the sacred place during lent and will be offered up in prayer during the Solemn Novena. As with others years, each night of the Novena a special guest speaker will speak about their work and how their faith guides them.

The rowing club were in Carlow recently for the Carlow Rowing Club Head of River. The club did extremely well with Jim Ryan winning the men's single scull in great style, while the women's Junior 16 of Nora Murphy, Jessica Coady, Carrie Nolan and Danielle Ryan, coxed by Jenna Joyce, also won their category leaving a couple of handy Carlow crews in their wake. These were very good results for the club and bode well for the season ahead.

The Fighting Cocks GFC's Annual Race Night which is being organised in conjunction with Rathoe NS is on Friday, March 19 in Leinster Hills Golf Club at 8.30pm. First race is due off at 8.45 p.m. so all punters are asked to be there to study the form and see their horses being paraded before the festivities commence. Horses are still available from all committee members and players and also from Rathoe NS committee members. Finger food will be provided on the night.
