Jess Smyth story teller IN TRAVELLER'S TRAINING CENTRE

Pictured at the storytelling and Ballad singing workshops at the Co Carlow VEC Education and Training Centre were Jess Smith and John Hogan Manager with members of the Travelling community.
THE ANCIENT arts of story telling and ballad singing were last week re-visited when an acclaimed artist hosted a workshop in the Travellers' Training Centre in Carlow.
Jess Smith is a Scottish Traveller who's published five books of stories as well as appearing extensively on the storytelling circuit.
Last week, Jess held workshops, entitled 'Out of the Mists' on storytelling and on ballad singing. People of all ages got to spend time with the acclaimed storyteller at the workshops and were encouraged to put their own twists on their own tales.
At the end of the workshops all participants took part in an impromptu seisiun where they took turns in storytelling, singing or playing tunes.
