Community Games artists are honoured

Tuesday February 02 2010

THE ARTISTIC talents of children from Leighlinbridge, Old Leighlinbridge and Ballinabranna were recognised last week when they took part in the area finals of the local community games.

Over fifty youngsters took part in the competition that aims to bring out the very best in the children who were aged from eight years old right up to 16.

' What's great about community games is that the emphasis isn't only on the sporty children,' Brenda Coffey, a leader of the community games explained.

' There are so many different activities that the children can take part in, like the choir, table quizzes or draughts.'

Hundreds of children across the county of Carlow take part in community games activities on a regular basis as the organisation is arranged into 15 separate areas.

Last week at the art competition the works of twenty five of the children were chosen by a panel of judges and will now go forward to the finals.

The finals are due to take place in Presentation College, Carlow, on Saturday, February 13.
